RECRUITING POLICIES

Thank you for your interest in recruiting Rutgers-Camden students! 

The Career Advancement Center requires all employers recruiting from the Rutgers-Camden community to review and adhere to the below established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

In alignment with those principles, the Career Advancement Center is committed to the below goals and have developed the following policies and guidelines in support of them.

Ensure that undue pressure is not placed on students/alumni by employers

Maintain a recruitment process that is fair and equitable

Support informed and responsible decision making by students/alumni


The following will NOT be approved for posting in Handshake with Rutgers University-Camden.  These programs will also not be permitted in the Rutgers University Camden Internship or Job Fairs:

  • MULTILEVEL EMPLOYERS (ALSO KNOWN AS “PYRAMID EMPLOYERS”) – These include organizations that depend on employees recruiting others to sell products and services on a commission basis.
  • UPFRONT PRODUCT PURCHASE EMPLOYERS These include organizations that require employees to invest their own resources in the purchase of supplies, products, or services to carry out their business.
  • COMMISSION ONLY Employers – Companies that require students to work without a salary. Compensation is based on a commission only status.
  • DOOR-TO-DOOR MARKETING STRATEGIES– “Guerilla” sales requiring cold calls or door-to-door residential or commercial sales will not be approved.
  • RESIDENTIAL LOCATIONS: Jobs or internships located at a residential address will not be approved.
  • WORK STUDY PROGRAMS: Work study programs are not promoted through the Rutgers Job and Internship Fair. Please direct work study questions to the department advisor.

Job & Internship Offer Policies and Recommended Deadlines To support informed and responsible decision making by students/alumni and ensure undue pressure is not placed on them by employers, the Career Advancement Center has established the below policies and recommended deadlines on job & internship offers.  We strongly suggest employers review and consider these, when establishing offer deadlines and evaluating requests for extensions by candidates.

Confidentiality Policy

  • Resumes, cover letters and any corresponding applicant materials provided to the employer via Handshake will not be shared, posted, or sold to any individual outside of the organization.

Alcohol and Cannabis Policy

  • Students should not be offered, supplied or served Alcohol or Cannabis as a part of their internship program. Serving alcohol to underage individuals is against the law.  Complaints from students experiencing pressure in their workplace to consume Alcohol or Cannabis will be taken very seriously. The college reserves the right to remove any employer as well as remove any job or internship postings connected to Rutgers University.
  • Non-Discrimination Policy Statement
    Rutgers University- Camden prohibits unlawful discrimination based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected class.

Posting Steps for Employers

Posting Steps:

  • Companies should post jobs and internships via Handshake. 
  • Complete contact information is required for the internships and/or jobs to be approved.
  • Jobs and Internships may be either Onsite or Virtual.
  • Companies must provide a clear description of the Job or Internship program.
  • Employers are encouraged to review the undergraduate majors and graduate programs as outlined by Rutgers University.
  • Employers may register for Rutgers University Camden Job and Internship Fairs through the Handshake link as supplied through the Rutgers University Career Center Office.

Salary Considerations

National salary survey data and executive summaries are available from the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE).

The Career Center reviews and approves the appropriateness of the positions being offered for the populations it serves. The Career Center reserves the right to refuse, deny, and/or remove any employer or posting not meeting with the campus policies.
